2222+You have: Zelda 1, 2, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and a demo
2423of Wind Waker. So in terms of 2D and 3D Zeldas, you have choices of
2524both styles. And unlike the NES and N64, you have the GameCube
2625controller to play with, which I think is the superior choice. >\: )
2626+The value you get out of the bundle is cool - with a
2727+GameCube and several Zeldas in one! I can tell you that I played
2828+the fuck out of the Collectors Edition.

35394040+Excited, after getting everything hooked up, we threw in the disc and were met with
4141+the game selection screen. I remember thinking that there were some missing
4242+selections...
4343+3644## I really missed Zelda: A Link to the Past

5454+I remember watching the retrospective movie and wondering, "Why is there
4755no A Link to the Past?"
48564957At the time, my SNES had stopped working a few years before because the power
5058pin inside of the socket had fallen out. And though there was ZSNES, I preferred
5159to play it with a proper controller, rather than keyboard so it wasn't exactly
5252-a game I played via emulation at the time. In the collectors edition,
6060+a game I played via emulation at the time. It had been a few years since our
6161+SNES stopped working, and I had hoped the Collectors Edition would have
6262+rectified that.
53635454-### And what about Links Awakening or Oracle of Ages/Seasons?
6464+My cousin had a SNES jr. For a summer, I would go over to her house
6565+with my copy of A Link to the Past and we would play it together. There
6666+was a point where I had gotten stuck on Mystery Mire, so I sequence broke
6767+the game and completed it out of order from that point. For whatever reason,
6868+I never walked the prisoner through the light after blowing up the ceiling
6969+in the boss room. Haha ;p
55705656-TBD.
7171+Despite the lack of A Link to the Past, I still enjoyed the Collectors Edition
7272+as a whole! And there was another happy accident that unexpectingly happened.
57735874## Wind Waker Demo
59756060-TBD
7676+Wind Waker was the new Zelda at the time. I remember being alienated by
7777+its sudden change in art style and had wanted to try it. Immediately
7878+the save screen presents some premade save files. Looking back on then,
7979+they were certainly interesting choices.
8080+8181+There was one that actually hooked me into Wind Waker. It was the Foresaken
8282+Fortress save. Once you reach the end of the fortress, you're given a
8383+spectacular sequence of cutscenes and an epic boss battle. Then, you
8484+make your great escape after encountering Ganondorf.
8585+8686+And then, you set sail for Wind Fall Island. Gosh, the music when you're
8787+sailing! I was completely in love. Surely my doubts weren't justified.
8888+It was a learning lesson for young me, as it was an experience that
8989+showed assumptions could let to the wrong conclusions. Wind Waker was
9090+iconic and did not deserve the pushback it received from fans like myself.
9191+Sadly it would be awhile before I could actually play it properly.
61926293## N64 Experience
63946464-TBD
9595+Let's talk about the emulation experience with N64.
9696+9797+Ocarina of Time felt as if it were just a native port of itself on GameCube.
9898+Everything worked as expected - including rumble! I have to talk about Majora's
9999+Mask.
100100+Crashes. Bugs. Just wow, there have been many instances where I would be
101101+doing a playthrough and it would just hardlock for no reason. There was a
102102+particular challenge run I was doing for myself, where I would play Majora's Mask
103103+and attempt a 100 percent completion in one sitting. I made it all the way to
104104+getting the last heart piece when out of nowhere, crash.
105105+(In Fox McCloud's Voice) Ahhhhhhh!!!
106106+Sound also would act wonky sometimes. Bassy sound effects would distort
107107+and pop/click as if they're clipping for some reason. This all was a
108108+stark contrast to Ocarina of Time.
109109+110110+Regarding controls, let's just say that GameCube is more suited to
111111+Zelda in 3D than N64's controller. This is definitely a matter of
112112+preference, but I just loved how tight the controls felt!
113113+114114+## Conclusion? Pretty good
115115+116116+Overall, the selection of games are all solid entries in the Zelda franchise.
117117+Especially given how Wind Waker was perceived by fans at the time. The 20 Minute
118118+Demo did more to introduce fans to Wind Waker than anything else.
119119+I wonder how many others who had picked up Collectors Edition
120120+also experienced Wind Waker like I did? And getting this for free with your
121121+GameCube is just a nice way to incentive people to buy a GameCube. If you
122122+picked this up back then, you got one hell of a deal. Nintendo came out of
123123+nowhere with Collectors Edition, but honestly Zelda fans were eating well
124124+during this time as there were a bunch of releases for both 3D and 2D fans
125125+alike during the GameCube era. I look back fondly to these games to this day!
126126+127127+### There hasn't been another compilation like Collectors Edition since
128128+129129+Nintendo never did revisit this concept like how Collectors Edition
130130+executed it. Sure there was Master Quest, NES Classics, and
131131+a few bundles, but we never got a compilation of the franchise
132132+like Collectors Edition. I have a hunch that there may be something
133133+like that coming for the 40th anniversary for Zelda, but we'll see!
134134+Nintendo always likes to do things when they're ready, after all.
135135+136136+Until next time! gm112 waz here, then he wasn't.
